Features Update – September 2007

There’s a new glyph in town

You might have already seen this tweaky little glyph, , located at the top of about 99% of the lists in Portal as seen below.

When you click it, you’ll see a screen (below) that will let you name the query that generated the list and schedule when you want the query to run. After clicking ’save schedule’ you, and a distribution list if you choose to enter one, will get an email early in the morning of the day or days you requested containing the results.

B-but what if it’s NOT a duplicate?

As you know from last month’s features update, we’ve streamlined the process of identifying, reviewing, and marking duplicates to such an amazing extent it’s almost like you can just snap your fingers and it’s done. Maybe you’ve gone on a de-dupe spree and are scraping the bottom of the barrel with almost no duplicates left. There’s just a few names left but… oops! Our algorithms have failed us! We’ve incorrectly identified two people as possible duplicates!

Well, here’s what you can do. Start with you usual possible dupe screen, seen here:

Suppose, innocently, the list says it thinks “Arthur Jr.” (marked “primary” above) is the same person as “Dr. Arthur.” (You’re familiar with that whole “kids moving back home” thing, right?)

Well, we’re much smarter than any algorithm: we know better. And NOW we can tell the list all about it. The duplicate-processing list contains a new column and new button:

As you can see, in addition to identifying duplicates, which we will merge if you mark them, you can now identify NON-DUPLICATES, which we will mark and never bug you about again! You can even mark that an account is not a duplicate of multiple accounts at once!

Did You Know?

When your search criteria produces a large number of results, you can click on the “displaying records” line at the top. Doing so will give you the “Go to page” function. Thanks to a super user for this excellent idea!

Features Update – August 2007

Duplicates – Duplicates (Echo – Echo)

The age old question: if a duplicate exists on your file, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Well, it does now – in fact it SCREAMS, if not audibly, then at least in SPEED and performance. Using the new high performance duplicate detector within the Revolution On-Line “Tools” menu, you can find your suspected dupes and do something about them right through the application. Go to the Tools menu, select one of the possible dupe functions to display your list of suspected duplicates.

By clicking the hyperlinked ROI ID you can do a number of things in the pop-up window, seen below.

You can choose among dupe matching algorithms by making a choice from the pull down in the top right corner. You can identify which account should be the primary (the account that will stick around when the dust clears). And you can identify multiple accounts that will be marked as duplicates so their details (such as pledges, payments, contacts, memberships, et cetera) will all be merged into the primary account.

Multi-Year Prospecting

Now you can do instantaneous ad-hoc queries identifying donors by their multi-year donation history. To use the new query function, go to the “MG Console” tab and in the prospecting section you’ll see a “multi year” command. When you click it, you’ll get an input form that looks something like this…

Using the on-screen widgets you can:

  1. Choose to include or exclude any group of account classes, account statuses, member types, and (if you have pledges) pledge types from the selection.
  2. Choose whether or not you want to pay attention to the “do not contact” setting on the individual household member accounts (to exclude the account from your results).
  3. Identify up to 10 account flags to include or exclude accounts from your results.
  4. Define up to 10 flexible time periods, and identify a donation dollar range you are looking for within each period.
  5. Choose to include or exclude donations to source codes from any group of promotion codes, source types, and contact types.

Once you’ve made your selections and click the “find donors” button the results will be returned, as you can see below.

Did You Know?

It’s true, you can use a Nintendo Wii to access your ROI Revolution On-Line Database. Not sure WHY you’d want to do that, but you can! Proving once again, your ROI database IS fun and games!
