Finding Calm, Creativity, and “Letting Them”

ROI Solutions | My Mission by Ami Fish

This is a mind-boggling time in which we are living.  It can be overwhelming trying to follow the endless news cycles and decisions being made at all levels of government while trying to understand the impact they have on our daily lives. My mindset?  Humans are resilient, and I believe in the good of humanity.  That isn’t to say that I ignore the news, but I need to set limits for myself and take steps for self-care to keep myself at my best.

This year, I moved into my very own home and am living by myself for the first time in my life.  Literally, I went from living at my childhood home to college with roommates to raising my family, and then a friend lived with me for a while following my divorce.  I have never had my own space to find my tranquility, which is AMAZING.

As I write this blog post, it is 4 am, and I awoke inspired and energized to start the day.  My muses are speaking to me, and I want to listen.  I want to create and work on writing my book about my parents, a memoir I began writing six years ago.  It is a series of short stories about the aging process – everything from the earliest doctor’s appointments to the end of life for both of them.  I was by their side all along the way, as many of you have done in your life or will when the time comes.  I want this book to encourage people helping a loved one through the aging process so that they know they aren’t alone (the system truly can feel crazy), and you need to find moments to laugh.  This book is a tribute to my parents and my way of paying forward what I learned to help others.  I’m seeking Beta Readers if anyone is interested in helping me with the final phase of editing my book!

Daily morning meditation and journaling have been key to starting my day off calmly. That draws out my creative energy to work on my book and apply my best self to my work in Client Services at ROI Solutions.   There are tons of guided meditations online! The idea is to let everything leave your mind to allow peace to take up the space.  Doesn’t that sound wonderful?  To have space in your heart and mind to fill with something you choose?!  I choose to fill my mind with creativity, but I have also recently begun listening to podcasts to help me grow as a human and do things for myself to live a longer, healthier life.

I highly recommend Mel Robbins and any of her podcasts, but most of all, her episodes focused on The Let Them Theory, which she and her daughter, Sawyer, co-authored.   In this book and the complementary podcasts, Mel speaks to areas of life and longevity that every human can do for themselves.  I’m incorporating them into my daily meditation, balance, strength exercises, eating healthy and whole foods, and creating a sleep habit that fuels my body.  Mel and Sawyer speak to “Letting Them” and “Letting Me.”

By taking care of myself, “Letting Them” and “Letting Me,” I can stay focused and take in the amount of world I can handle on any given day.  I can also bring creativity and open-mindedness to my work at ROI Solutions, where I work with incredible nonprofit organizations that change the world.
